Welcome to AfterBurnerPhoto, a site showcasing the Aviation Photography of Bill Osmun.

The short story behind the site name and the title photo. While at Nellis AFB in Las Vegas for the 2006 Aviation Nation Airshow, I was taking photos of the F-15C Demo practice on Friday. I was setting up, framing the F-15 in the camera viewfinder, ready for when he was to fly past. I was pushing the focusing button, when all of a sudden I noticed a flash, so I instantly started taking pictures. The one at the top of this page was a result of that shooting. About 90% luck, and being at the right place at the right time. I was fortunate to get the shot, it didn't last even a second. The event is called an Afterburner Blowout, a minor malfunction of the afterburner system. The engine continued to operate, and the pilot kept flying his practice demo routine.

If you see a photo on this site which you would like to use as your computer background, feel free to download it. If you download the photo for use other than your own computer, I would appreciate it if you would indicate that you are using the photo courtesy of www.afterburnerphoto.com. Due to the picture resolution for use on the web, the photos will not print out very well. If you would like a photographic print of any photo on this site, I would be happy to provide any size print of any photo you want, up to and including 50 ft. wide banners.

As is or will be apparent, most of the photos are of U.S. military aircraft. That is simply my preferrence of subject. Although there are photos of airliners, and others, I much prefer to photograph fast, high performance aircraft. The majority of the photos have been taken at Airshows, Air Races, and Military bases I have traveled to, and the local airports around Phoenix, AZ.

The photos are organized into pages of each different type of aircraft. There are also pages for certain airshows, which may contain some of the same aircraft type as the dedicated aircraft pages. Click through the various pages to find aircraft you know and like.

SPECIAL REQUEST TO MILITARY PILOTS: If you stop by Williams-Gateway (Phx-Mesa Gateway) on a weekend, let me know, and I'll get photos of your departures, flybys, or statics, and send you some prints and pix files, no charge, so be sure to dip your wings about 25-45 degrees as you go by the "photo stand" !!!

Many of the photos are missing from below. I am in the process of redoing the whole site. Please come back, and I will get more photos up every week. (10-Mar-08)
